At MRA Podiatry and Orthotics we can offer a wide range of treatments for your ingrown toenail. A true ingrown toenail is occurs when the toenail is not cut correctly and there is usually a nail spike left behind in the corner of the toenail. This nail spike grows forward and pierces the skin at the side of the toenail. The area where the skin is pierced by the ingrown toenail can become red swollen and inflamed. If the affected area is producing pus then there is most likely an infection present as well.
Sometimes people will think they have an ingrown toenail when they actually when in actual fact it is just the nail pressing against the skin due to a callus under the nail or because they have a fungal nail infection which causes the nail to get thick and can cause symptoms that resemble and ingrown toenail.
There are a number of different treatments that MRA Podiatry and Orthotics can provide to help resolve your ingrown toenail problem. Firstly an assessment is need to determine what treatment is most suitable. The conservative way to treat and ingrown toenail is to slowly trim the nail back and pak the nail with foam and try to influence the way te nail grows. A more aggressive way to treat an ingrown toenail is to perform a minor surgical procedure on the nail under local anaesthetic where the offending part of the nail is destroyed so it does not grow back.
At MRA Podiatry and orthotics we provide treatments to resolve your ingrown toenail and prevent it from reoccurring in the future
